Thanks for the clear request. Today half-screen mode is fixed at 50% of the viewport height, which leaves little editor space once the on-screen keyboard is open in portrait mode on phones/tablets.
I've created issue #2933 to track making the half-screen height adjustable, with the constraints you described:
- Must not collapse completely (exiting remains the job of the half-screen toggle)
- Must not cover the full viewport (that remains the job of the full-screen toggle)
A few multiple-choice questions so we can refine issue #2933:
1. How should the height be adjusted?
- A) Drag the top edge of the half-screen editor
- B) Choose from a few presets (e.g. ~40% / 50% / 60% / 70%)
- C) Both drag and presets
2. Should the chosen height be remembered?
- A) Yes, remember across visits in the same browser
- B) Only for the current editing session
- C) No, always start at 50%
3. Where should adjustable height apply?
- A) Phones and tablets only (narrow / touch viewports)
- B) All devices, including desktop
Please reply with your choices (e.g.
1A, 2A, 3A). -

When using toggle half screen in portrait mode on phones and tablets, it's quite ineffective because I only get a very small area of space when the keyboard is showing. Therefore it would be very practical if the toggle half screen height could be adjustable. However it shouldn't be too adjustable so that it is allowed to disappear completely because that is the job of the toggle half screen button. It shouldn't be too adjustable that it takes up the whole screen because that is the job of the toggle full screen button.
I'd like you to create an issue to resolve this.
