This is not possible. After all you can use project specific service desk email for this purpose, and I do not want to make things too flexible (but complicated) here.

Thank you for your comments. However, what I requested is kind of standard and common thing. Publishing email address in form: [email protected] is not user friendly. In fact, this kind of thing scares less tech savvy people.
From my experience, filtering emails based on destination address is more common than filtering emails based on source address.
Please reconsider.

You are right. Determining project based on sender address does not make too much sense in most cases. In 11.6.6 this feature is removed, and one can specify project service desk email address as arbitrary address, as long as it shares same inbox as system email address.

Thank you.
As for the source address using to determine project. As a matter of fact we did/do use it in some cases. We have project dedicated to a specific customer. Customer usually has a team of ppl who contact us with requests for support and other stuff. As they are all from one team/company they share the same source address domain part. Based on this we can easily assign their request to a specific project. But, as I and you said. This is rarely used feature.

In the Mail service settings we can specify
Additional Email Addresses to Monitor. This is very useful, especially that we, sometimes, have a dedicated email address (or even domain name) for a project. However, right now, we can only specify these additional email addresses to monitor and receive and process emails sent to these addresses. However, the missing feature is to match these email addresses to a specific project.
The
Service Desk Settingsallows to match default project based on the sender address. Ideally I would like to be able to match default project based on the received address (additional email addresses to monitor). Is this possible? Am I missing something?
